Nikos Tan

Music School Founder | Educator | Arranger


Nikos Tan, founder of Music. For Life, is a passionate music educator with over 10 years of teaching experience. Known for his dynamic and contemporary approach, he has spent many years teaching improvisation and modern music techniques, helping students break away from rote learning to discover their own musical voice.

His musical journey began early and took shape during his polytechnic years, where he served as Vice President of a piano ensemble, leading numerous performances and gaining invaluable experience in collaboration and leadership. Since then, he has gone on to create music arrangements, collaborate with fellow musicians, and build a vibrant team of experienced teachers who share his vision.

Nikos’s teaching philosophy focuses on practical application and hands-on learning. He places strong emphasis on developing musicality and expression, encourages experimentation, and believes creativity thrives when students feel free to explore. Above all, he is committed to helping every student unlock their full musical potential and find joy in making music.

Janelle Tan

Piano Educator | Performer | Community Music Advocate


Janelle Tan is an experienced piano teacher with a strong foundation in both classical and modern piano. Over the years, she has performed in numerous piano showcases across various music schools and has been actively involved in music improvisation education workshops at library@esplanade.

Passionate about bringing music to the wider community, Janelle has contributed to programmes such as the National Arts Council’s Arts in Your Neighbourhood initiative, performing in events like Jazz for You & Me at Toa Payoh, Jazz@AMK, Jazz@Punggol, Khatib Plaza, Pasir Ris Elias CC, Kallang Artsbites and Tampines Hub.

Her teaching experience spans a variety of settings. She has taught piano and music appreciation in primary schools through initiatives such as NAC-AEP’s Jazz for Kids! at Fairfield Methodist Primary School and Rhythm in Me at Nanyang Primary. Janelle has also brought keyboard programmes to secondary schools, including Raffles Girls’ School, Yangzheng Secondary and Zhonghua Secondary, where she inspires young learners to explore music beyond the classroom.

Terence Huang

Piano & Keyboard Educator | Performer | Music Educator

Terence Huang is a versatile pianist and keyboardist whose musical journey began as a Yamaha student and has since evolved into a career as a passionate performer and teacher. Over the years, he has performed live at notable venues such as the Esplanade and was part of the resident Saturday band at Little Island Brewery. His experience extends to private events of every kind – from weddings and birthday celebrations to corporate functions – where his music adds colour and joy to every occasion.

Terence is skilled in playing by ear, able to adapt to a wide range of styles and genres with ease. His expertise in music arrangement and composition, combined with years of teaching private lessons in ABRSM, Trinity Guildhall, LCM and ANZCA syllabi, makes him a well-rounded educator. Since joining Music for Life, he has continued to inspire students with his approachable teaching style and wide musical knowledge.

With musical interests spanning classical, rock, jazz, pop, and an openness to all genres, Terence believes music should be as fun as it is educational. His philosophy is simple: knowledge is power, but life is too short not to laugh. Whether it’s sharing a good laugh in class, or celebrating small wins, he makes sure that music learning is always a fun but rich experience.
